Blood sugar level being checked

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: During Gulf Diabetes Prevention Week, which aligned with World Diabetes Day, the College of Dentistry hosted an awareness event titled "Together Against Diabetes: Better Life and Health" at the KUDC college clinics building in the Jabriya area.

Dr. Rashid Al-Azmi, the Acting Dean of the College, highlighted that Kuwait is among the countries witnessing a high prevalence of diabetes, particularly the second type. Emphasizing the significance of awareness, prevention, and adopting a healthy lifestyle, he stressed their crucial roles in averting the onset of this chronic disease. The event aims to promote awareness and preventive measures in this regard.

In her statement, Dr. Abrar Al-Enezi, the Acting Head of the Department of Preventive Sciences and Growth and Development Sciences, pointed out the adverse impact of diabetes on oral health. She highlighted the elevated occurrence of gum inflammation and related tissue issues, increased susceptibility to tooth decay due to dry mouth in diabetic individuals, and a heightened risk of bad breath and gum abscesses. Additionally, she emphasized the challenges in wound healing following tooth extraction or oral surgery. Dr. Al-Enezi underscored the significance of oral health care, regular examinations, and guidance to effectively manage and adapt to this disease.

Dr. Al-Azmi and Dr. Al-Anazi wrapped up their discussion by expressing gratitude to the attendees and contributors who played a pivotal role in the event's success. Special thanks were extended to the participating entities, including the Diabetes Unit at Mubarak Hospital, Dr. Walid Al-Dhahi, Head of the Internal Medicine Department, Off Course Healthy Meals Company, and Roche Medical Equipment.
