DUBAI, Nov 15, (Agencies): Renowned model Halima Aden is poised to join the selection committee for the highly anticipated 72nd Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador, scheduled for November 18.

Expressing her gratitude on Wednesday, the US Somali model shared her excitement on Instagram, posting a picture from the country with her extensive following of 1.3 million. In addition to Aden, the judging panel will feature nine other distinguished individuals, including celebrity-designer Carson Kressley, mixed martial arts fighter Mario Bautista, Sweta Patel, Roku’s marketing vice president, Miss Universe 1977 Janelle Comissiong, Puerto Rican actress Giselle Blonde, and US Filipino physician Connie Mariano.

This year’s international beauty pageant boasts three Arab contestants: Miss Universe Bahrain Lujane Yacoub, Miss Universe Egypt Mohra Tantawy, and Miss Universe Lebanon Maya Aboul Hosn. In exclusive interviews with Arab News, the three models provided insights into their challenges and aspirations leading up to the competition.

Lujane Yacoub, representing Miss Universe Bahrain, outlined her three-fold mission for the year. Having overcome a learning disability through the arts, she aims to assist young artists facing similar challenges, particularly those struggling with linear subjects like mathematics. Yacoub also discussed her involvement as a Smile Train ambassador and her Hero Project, where she highlights individuals making a positive impact through charities and causes.

Mohra Tantawy, Miss Universe Egypt, expressed her surprise at finding herself in this position, considering she did not grow up with a background in pageantry. Reflecting on the belief that destiny unfolds as intended, she acknowledged that Miss Universe Egypt found her. Despite encountering criticism about her appearance, Tantawy emphasized the importance of discerning whose opinions to value during such moments.

Maya Aboul Hosn, representing Miss Universe Lebanon, aims to leverage her platform as a role model in the Arab world. Hailing from a humble background, she stressed the significance of hard work in achieving one's dreams and goals. Aboul Hosn encourages every girl to believe that with dedication, they can attain their aspirations.

The Miss Universe pageant promises to be a showcase of diversity, strength, and the inspiring stories of these remarkable women.
