The health screening program is in progress.

KUWAIT CITY, May 23: Special Olympics Kuwait recently organized the second health examination program for athletes with mental disabilities. The program involved conducting medical examinations for approximately 150 athletes from schools, institutions, and associations dedicated to supporting people with mental disabilities. This included athletes from the Ambition Club. The event was attended by representatives from Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa, along with numerous volunteers, including doctors and specialists from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health.

Hanaa Al-Zawawi, Chairman of the Kuwaiti Special Olympics Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of these medical examinations for athletes with mental disabilities. She noted that many of these athletes are unable to express their pain, which can lead to future setbacks both athletically and health-wise. Al-Zawawi explained that the health examination program comprises seven different clinics: oral and dental health, eye health, hearing health, mental health, prevention and nutrition, physical therapy, and foot health.

She also highlighted that the health examination program is a key component of the Special Olympics health initiative, which includes other elements such as the Healthy Families Forum, Healthy Communities, and Enhancing Physical Fitness.

Rehab Bouresli, the National Director of the Kuwaiti Special Olympics, added that the doctors and specialists involved in examining and following up with athletes with mental disabilities are accredited by the regional and international Special Olympics. This accreditation ensures they are well-versed in the health issues facing these athletes, to prepare them for participation in competitions and tournaments.
