NEW DELHI, Aug 24: Heavy rain and adverse weather conditions disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Monday, affecting both arrivals and departures at one of South Asia’s busiest airports.

Flight-tracking service FlightRadar24 reported widespread disruptions, while state-owned Doordarshan News said 14 flights, including two international services, were diverted from the Indian capital.

Several airlines also warned passengers of delays and changes to flight schedules due to the weather. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, said heavy weather over Delhi had affected flight operations and urged passengers to expect disruptions as it monitored the situation.

The India Meteorological Department had forecast heavy rainfall at isolated locations in New Delhi and surrounding areas on Monday.

India experiences heavy monsoon rainfall between June and September, with intense downpours frequently causing waterlogging, flooding, travel disruptions and damage to property and infrastructure.
