KUWAIT CITY, March 22: The Board of Directors of Kuwait Club has appointed Algerian coach Said Hegazi to lead the first-handball team for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.

Hegazi, known as the "Championship Hunter," is recognized as one of the most successful coaches in handball. He previously coached the "White Castle" handball team, a period that marked the club's golden age, where he guided them to numerous local championship victories.

Hegazi began his coaching career in the Kuwaiti league with Al-Sulaibikhat Handball Club, where he led the team from 2004 to 2008, winning two league titles, one Federation Cup, one Al-Kharafi Cup, and one Gulf Cup. He then moved on to coach Al-Fahaheel, claiming two league titles and one cup before joining Al-Kuwait for seven successful seasons from 2012 to 2019. During his time at Al-Kuwait Club, Hegazi won seven league titles, and six cup titles, finished third in the Asian Cup, and was runner-up in the Arab Club Championship. He later coached Al-Arabi and Burgan before returning to Kuwait SC.

Hegazi expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the Kuwait Club, thanking the board of directors, led by Chairman Khaled Al-Ghanim, for their trust. He commented, “We will collaborate with the coaching staff and players to improve the team, knowing that change is possible, and those who perform best will remain with the team.”

On the subject of young players, Hegazi stated that their participation in the league is a possibility, and any player deemed important by the technical staff will be included in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, two matches are scheduled for today in the 12th round of the "Merged" Handball League. Al-Sahel, with zero points, will face Al-Arabi, who has 14 points, at 9:00 PM. At 10:30 pm, Al-Qadsiya (12 points) will play Kazma, the Super Cup champion with 19 points, at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex.

In the previous round, Al-Sulaibikhat triumphed over Al-Fahaheel 38-21, and Al-Nasr defeated Al-Qurain 37-34.
