KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18: Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a ceremony was held at Bayan Palace to announce the establishment of the Kuwait National Center for Space Research. The event was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, and senior state officials.

Upon His Highness’s arrival at the ceremony, he was greeted by Dr. Amina Rajab Farhan, Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. His Highness toured an exhibition displaying images from the Kuwaiti satellite and received a detailed briefing from Dr. Hala Al-Jassar, Director of the National Satellite Project.

During the event, His Highness delivered a speech emphasizing Kuwait’s commitment to scientific research, particularly in space sciences, artificial intelligence, and alternative energy. He praised the efforts of Kuwaiti researchers and innovators, highlighting the importance of fostering scientific progress in the rapidly evolving global landscape. His Highness also recalled the vision of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who laid the foundation for Kuwait's scientific and technological advancements.

His Highness called for continued support of national scientific initiatives, particularly in building the capabilities required to design and operate space projects. He highlighted the successful launch of Kuwait's first satellite, Kuwait Sat 1, in early 2023 as a significant achievement that positions Kuwait prominently on the global map of scientific and technical achievements.

Following His Highness’s speech, Dr. Farhan addressed the attendees, emphasizing the role of the Kuwait National Center for Space Research in strengthening national identity through scientific research and innovation. She highlighted the connection between earth and space research, aiming to elevate Kuwait’s name in the international arena.

Dr. Farhan also paid tribute to the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his visionary contributions to the advancement of science and technology in Kuwait, while extending her gratitude to His Highness for his ongoing support of the Foundation’s initiatives.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a commemorative souvenir to His Highness in honor of the occasion.
