I have hundreds of funny anecdotes and jokes in my memory, political, social, and others, in addition to the funny events and situations I experienced, some of which I published in several articles. Western society is characterized by the phenomenon of the Standing Comedian, where a talented person stands on stage, tells jokes to the audience and often interacts with them. Together, they create a wonderful feeling of happiness and familiarity.
Some of these comedians make huge fortunes, with the richest earning around $70 million a year, doing dozens of shows a year. The most famous comedians, including the late George Carlin and Richard Boyer and those who retired after making hundreds of millions of dollars, include John Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy and many others. Saudi thinker Ibrahim Al-Bulaihi says that the sense of humor is of great importance. It was not surprising that three of the most famous minds in America participated in studying the subject of ‘humor’.
The famous philosopher Daniel Dennett and his colleagues Matthew Hurley and Reynald Adams, published a book entitled ‘Inside the Joke’, with a subtitle that says ‘Humor Reflects the Engineering of the Mind’. The book was published by the most famous scientific institution in America and the book was translated into Arabic with an extensive introduction by the translator Qais Qasim Al-Ajrash and was published by Dar Sutour. Its authors say in their introduction: Humor constitutes a vital aspect and a rich source that enhances our idea of the scene of mechanisms, or soft mechanisms operating inside our brains. He adds: As time passes, we will discover that humor has revealed its permanence and that it can take new paths and updated concepts to have an effect and influence!
A sense of humor is a noble human value, it is a sign of intelligence and it is also comforting and cheerful, so Charlie Chaplin believes that the worst day is the day that passes without laughter. The cheerful thing is that anyone who follows social media will notice that the sense of humor is high among Saudis and this has a cheerful connotation, as laughter is a human trait and some even believe that laughter is one of the most prominent characteristics of a human being, which is why it was said: a human being is a laughing being. The ability to make others laugh and the ability to respond automatically to a joke are also signs of intelligence, as a sense of humor is one of the most wonderful manifestations of human interaction and we notice that a dull-witted person may hear a joke and not grasp the meaning, while smart people grasp the meaning before the speaker finishes and they drown in laughter, which is as much a sign of intelligence as it is one of the joys of life. People are thirsty for what is funny, entertaining and comforting, so people are keen to attend comedy theater and a person known for his sense of humor is loved and those who know him are keen to accompany him. Because of the importance of laughter in human life, philosophy, literature and science have paid attention to it. Laughter has become so important that it has become the subject of a science in its own right, ‘the science of laughter.’ The famous French philosopher Henri Bergson also wrote a book about ‘laughter.’
Psychology has been interested in laughter as a treatment for human misery. As Dr. Daniel Siegel says: The world is full of psychological pain, so the famous psychiatrist Patch Adams was interested in employing a sense of humor and laughter to make people happy or at least reduce misery in their lives. The book ‘The Science of Laughter,’ written by Stephanie Davis, comes within this trend and she confirms that ‘humor is a cognitive skill,’ which grows according to the openness of the environment, the diversity of knowledge and the flexibility of dealing. The sense of humor includes many concepts, such as laughter, sarcasm, irony, smiling, joy and other spontaneous emotions. Today, satirical literature has become one of the most prominent forms of literature, so we find detailed studies on funny writers who are famous for their sense of humor.
