KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: Kuwait has introduced tougher penalties for individuals who park in spaces designated for people with disabilities. Under the new regulations, which will be strictly enforced, a fine of KD 150 will be imposed on anyone caught illegally parking in these spaces. However, the penalties do not end there. If the violation is referred to the judiciary, the court has the authority to impose severe consequences, including imprisonment for a period exceeding one year but not exceeding three years. In addition to the prison sentence, a fine ranging from no less than KD 600 to no more than KD 1,000 may be levied, or the court may impose one of these penalties.
This move is part of the Ministry of Interior's ongoing efforts to ensure respect for individuals with disabilities and promote greater awareness among the public regarding the importance of adhering to designated parking rules. The new traffic amendments are designed to foster a culture of respect and responsibility among drivers, particularly when it comes to respecting spaces reserved for those with special needs. As the regulations come into effect, authorities are urging drivers to be mindful of these important rules, reinforcing that such spaces are meant exclusively for individuals who rely on them for their mobility and accessibility needs.
