KUWAIT CITY, Feb 5: The Ministry of Interior has announced several amendments to the Traffic Law, which will take effect on April 22. These new rules introduce stricter penalties for various traffic violations to enhance road safety and ensure proper use of public spaces. One of the main changes involves the use of buggies and bicycles. Driving these vehicles in areas not designated for them will incur a fine of KD 150. If the case is taken to court, the penalty could result in imprisonment for a period between one year and three years and/or a fine ranging from KD 600 to KD 1,000.
Using a motor vehicle to transport passengers for a fee without the proper permit will also attract a fine of KD 150. Should the case be referred to court, the penalty may include imprisonment for up to three years and/ or a fine ranging from KD 600 to KD 1,000. Driving on the shoulder of the road will now be subject to a KD 75 fine. If the case goes to court, the punishment could be imprisonment for up to three months and/or a fine ranging between KD 150 and KD 300.
Driving a vehicle that produces loud noises, heavy smoke, or unpleasant odors, or is carrying a load that is not properly secured, will result in a KD 75 fine. If the matter is taken to court, the penalty could include imprisonment for up to three months, and/or a fine ranging between KD 150 and KD 300. Driving or parking vehicles on the sidewalks or pedestrian-only areas is punishable by a fine of KD 30. If the case is referred to court, the fine imposed will range between KD 50 and KD 100.
