KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: The Padma Awards, one of India’s highest civilian honors, are conferred annually to recognize individuals for their exceptional contributions across various disciplines, including art, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, medicine, literature, education, sports, civil service, and trade and industry. The awards are classified into three categories: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.

In a remarkable recognition of her efforts to promote yoga and wellness in the Gulf region, Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al Jaber Al Sabah of Kuwait has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. The Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, is awarded for distinguished contributions in various fields, including art, public affairs, and social work.

Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al Jaber Al Sabah has been at the forefront of advocating yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being in Kuwait and the surrounding region. Her initiatives have significantly contributed to increasing awareness and fostering cultural exchange between India and Kuwait.

The Padma Shri Awards are traditionally announced on the eve of Republic Day, and the honors will be presented at a ceremonial function held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the President of India, in March or April. Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al Jaber Al Sabah’s recognition highlights the growing global appreciation for yoga and its cultural and health benefits, as well as the strong ties between India and Kuwait.

For 2025, the President of India has approved 139 Padma Awards, including one duo case (counted as a single award). The recipients include 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awardees. Among them, 23 are women, 10 belong to the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, and 13 are posthumous honorees.

The awards will be presented by the President at a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, traditionally held in March or April. Announced every year on Republic Day, the Padma Awards continue to celebrate extraordinary achievements and contributions to society.
