A SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga to Mumbai made an emergency landing in Varanasi after an 85-year-old woman passed away on board.

INDIA, Dec 26: A SpiceJet flight traveling from Darbhanga to Mumbai had to make an emergency landing in Varanasi following the unfortunate death of an 85-year-old woman on board. The deceased, identified as Kalawati Devi, was accompanied by her grandson on SpiceJet flight SG 116. The distressing event unfolded after the flight departed from Darbhanga airport at 5:40 p.m. on Monday, and as the aircraft covered some distance, Kalawati Devi's health took a turn for the worse.

With the plane nearing the airspace of Uttar Pradesh, the pilot promptly contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Varanasi to seek permission for an emergency landing. The aircraft safely landed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi at 6 p.m. Medical assistance was provided immediately, and the elderly woman was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite efforts, doctors at the hospital declared her deceased.

Following the necessary procedures and a delay due to the emergency, the SpiceJet flight eventually resumed its journey to Mumbai from Varanasi, departing at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The incident highlights the challenges and swift responses required in managing in-flight emergencies for the safety and well-being of passengers.
