ERBIL,Oct 25: A drone struck a base belonging to the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, causing material damage but no casualties, according to reports from the region.
The strike took place at around 10 pm on Saturday in the Alana Valley in the Balisan area of Erbil province, approximately 90 kilometres northeast of Erbil, according to a statement issued by Komala and reported by regional media.
Komala blamed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for the attack, saying an explosive-laden Shahed drone targeted one of its bases. The group said its fighters in the area were safe and that the strike caused damage to buildings and facilities. Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency also reported the drone attack.
Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region hosts camps and bases belonging to several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. Tehran has repeatedly accused these groups of threatening its national security and has targeted their positions with drones and missiles.
The latest incident follows another reported drone strike against a Komala base in the Balisan area on October 17, when two drones hit buildings and a guard post, according to Rudaw. That attack also caused material damage without reported casualties.
In one of the deadliest recent attacks, Iranian missile strikes on Komala positions near Zargwez in Sulaymaniyah province on July 17 killed nine members of the group and wounded several others, according to reports from Kurdish media and human rights organisations.
The repeated strikes have heightened security concerns in the Kurdistan Region, which has faced attacks on Iranian Kurdish opposition groups since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran on February 28, 2026, according to regional media reports.
