DUBAI, March 9: In a shocking and audacious scheme that has stunned Iraq, a 35-year-old man managed to marry eight women from different regions, only to divorce them shortly afterward, stripping them of their financial savings and disappearing without a trace.

One of the wives, who spoke to the media and shared her story, revealed that some of the marriages lasted just a few months, while others lasted only a few weeks. Three of the wives were from Baghdad, while the remaining five hailed from various parts of Iraq.

The eighth and final wife to fall victim to this man’s scheme shared her experience with Al Sharqiya TV. She explained that the con artist worked in the luxury car sector, renting high-end vehicles to create the illusion of affluence. This ruse convinced his victims of his wealth and led them to trust him.

She recounted how he persuaded her to sell her car and withdraw her savings of 25 million Iraqi dinars, along with $69,000, claiming he intended to purchase land for both of them. However, just two days after handing him the money, she was left in shock upon receiving divorce papers, with no explanation provided.

As the women began to realize they had all been victims of the same scam, they formed a WhatsApp group to share information about the man and seek solutions. The group quickly grew to eight women as more victims connected via social media.

The wife who spoke on television described how the man courted her, as well as the other women, in a formal manner. Each marriage was conducted according to local customs and traditions, with family and tribe members present at the ceremonies. Each woman had her own wedding celebration, all without raising suspicion.

She explained that her husband disappeared just three days after their wedding, only to briefly reappear before vanishing again. This cycle continued, leading her to initially believe it was a normal pattern. Eventually, the truth was uncovered.

The other wives reached out to her, sending pictures and documents that confirmed their marriages with the man. These were not just tribal ceremonies, but were also officially registered with legal authorities.

As of now, there has been no official comment from Iraqi authorities on how the man was able to marry eight women simultaneously without detection.
