RAMALLAH, Sept 5: The Israeli army announced Monday that Palestinian journalist Sherin Abu Akelah might have been shot dead by an Israeli soldier by mistake. After ending the investigation report, Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IBBC) quoted the army that during the incidence the Israeli soldiers directed fire towards armed people who opened fire on an Israeli force. The probe indicated that it is not possible to identify the weapon that targeted Abu Akelh, the IBBC said.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian presidency said that the Israeli report on the killing of Abu Akelh is an attempt to evade responsibility of her killing. Commenting on the Israeli investigation results issued earlier today, Palestinian Presidency spokesman Nabil Abu-Redina added all evidence and investigations carried out have proved Israeli was the criminal and it should bear responsibility of its crime.

The Palestinian leadership will continue following Abu Akelh's file with all international bodies, topped with the International Criminal Court, as well as other dossiers to protect Palestinian people, he stated. Israeli will not escape impunity for its continued crimes against Palestinian people, and their Christian and Muslim sanctities, he stressed. Abu Akleh, who is an American citizen also, was shot dead on May 11 during covering Israeli occupation forces' storming of Jenin City. (KUNA)
