KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: On Sunday, October 8, 2023, the International Women’s Group in Kuwait joined forces with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to present an enchanting Bulgarian Cultural Day at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Mrs. Antonia Dimitrova, President of IWG and spouse of the Bulgarian Ambassador, warmly greeted esteemed guests and members as they arrived. The event commenced with Mrs. Laila Boulos, the Public Relations Coordinator, introducing H.E. Dimitar Dimitrov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria. In his speech, Ambassador Dimitrov expressed his great delight in participating in this event, particularly as Bulgaria and Kuwait celebrated the remarkable 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He extended his heartfelt appreciation to IWG for hosting the Bulgarian Cultural Day, considering it an exceptional opportunity to showcase various aspects of his country's rich culture and traditions.

Ambassador Dimitrov highlighted the enduring history of friendship and collaboration between Bulgaria and Kuwait, underscoring the profound influence of culture on this partnership. Throughout the years, cultural interchange has encompassed a wide array of activities, including exhibitions, participation in cultural festivals, concerts, cooperative endeavors between libraries and museums, student exchanges, and various other initiatives. The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation for the significant role played by women. During his visit to an association that brings together women from diverse backgrounds, he couldn't help but emphasize the vital contribution of women to Bulgarian society. He praised Bulgarian women for their active engagement in all facets of life and their role as genuine guardians of Bulgarian cultural and spiritual traditions.

Emphasizing Bulgaria's rich historical and cultural heritage, Ambassador Dimitrov pointed out that the Bulgarian state has thrived in the Balkans for more than 14 centuries, with its traditions shaped by a diverse array of civilizations and peoples, including ancient Thrace, Greece, Rome, and the Near East. Numerous Bulgarian sites and traditions have received UNESCO's recognition on the World Heritage list, alongside the country's breathtaking natural landscapes, which attract millions of foreign tourists annually.

Progress

In conclusion, Ambassador Dimitrov seized the opportunity to extend his heartfelt congratulations to H.H. the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the occasion of the third anniversary of his assumption of office. He also conveyed his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the State of Kuwait, its wise leadership, and its friendly citizens.

Following his speech, Mrs. Polina Dlamini, Vice President of IWG and spouse of the Ambassador of Eswatini, presented an honorary shield to the Bulgarian Ambassador and his wife, Mrs. Antonia Dimitrova, as a token of gratitude for their efforts in organizing this special day and for introducing the attendees to the cultural richness and beauty of Bulgaria. Throughout the event, a short film captivated the audience by showcasing Bulgaria's diverse natural and cultural heritage, historical landmarks, breathtaking mountains, lakes, caves, mineral springs, and thrilling adventure tourism activities.

The audience was treated to a captivating harp performance by Mrs. Violeta Shabanliyska, featuring compositions by renowned Bulgarian composers. The event also showcased a visual exhibition of meticulously crafted cultural artifacts and traditional rituals that earned a coveted spot on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity back in 2017. The display featured the distinctive and unique traditional Bulgarian folklore costumes. To satisfy the palate, the talented chefs at the Crowne Plaza Hotel prepared a selection of renowned Bulgarian dishes, all served in an atmosphere resonating with Bulgarian traditional music. As a delightful finale to the Bulgarian Cultural Day, attendees had the opportunity to partake in raffles offering valuable prizes generously provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria.
