Jake Paul Defeats Mike Tyson in Heavyweight Showdown via Unanimous Decision

Jake Paul, the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-professional boxer, claimed victory over 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a much-anticipated fight Friday night in Arlington, Texas. Paul secured the win via unanimous decision, with judges scoring the bout 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in his favor.

“I didn’t prove anything to anybody, only to myself,” Tyson said post-fight, addressing concerns over his age and stamina. “I’m not one of those guys who looks to please the world. I’m just happy with what I can do.”

The match, broadcast exclusively on Netflix, attracted significant interest but was marred by technical issues as the streaming platform struggled with capacity. The eight-round bout saw Tyson, known for his 50-7 record with 44 knockouts, begin aggressively but slow down quickly, hindered by wobbly legs and limited stamina. Paul, now 11-1 with 7 KOs, outpaced Tyson, landing 78 punches compared to Tyson's 18. Neither fighter managed a knockdown during the fight.

Despite the loss, Tyson expressed satisfaction with his performance. “I’m absolutely happy, yes. I knew he was a good fighter. I knew he was prepared. I came to fight,” Tyson said.

The 31-year age gap and Tyson’s health challenges were prominent talking points leading up to the fight. Tyson entered the ring wearing a brace on his right knee due to an injury. The bout had been postponed from its original July 20 date after Tyson suffered a stomach ulcer flare-up in May, which caused him to lose 26 pounds.

Several states declined to sanction the fight, but the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation allowed it with specific conditions, including the use of heavier 14-ounce gloves and shorter two-minute rounds over eight rounds instead of the typical three-minute, 10- or 12-round format.

Paul, who made his professional debut in 2020, added another victory to his résumé, primarily built against mixed martial artists. While he has expressed interest in fighting top-tier opponents like Canelo Álvarez, Paul refrained from calling out any specific fighter as his next challenge.

Tyson, however, hinted at the possibility of stepping back into the ring. “I don’t know,” Tyson said when asked if this was his final fight. “It depends on the situation.”
