Jennifer Lawrence embraces motherhood again as she welcomes baby No. 2

LOS ANGELES, April 1: Jennifer Lawrence has welcomed her second child with her husband, Cooke Maroney. The exciting news was confirmed by a source to People on Tuesday, following weeks of speculation regarding the Oscar-winning actress’s quiet delivery.

At this time, details about the baby's sex, name, or birth date remain private. Lawrence, 34, and Maroney, 40, who married in October 2019, are already parents to their three-year-old son, Cy.

The No Hard Feelings actress first made her second pregnancy public in October 2024 when her representative confirmed the news to Vogue.

Lawrence, who hails from Indian Hills, Kentucky, and Maroney, the art gallery director at Gladstone Gallery in New York City since 2022, tied the knot at the Belcourt Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.

Though her due date was initially speculated to be in early spring, a source close to the actress hinted in October that her son Cy would turn three around the time the new baby arrived. Cy was born in February 2022, meaning he celebrated his third birthday last month.

A source close to the family previously shared, “She loves being a mom. She’s thrilled to be pregnant again. It feels like the perfect timing to her. Her son will be 3 when the new baby arrives.”

In a 2022 interview with Vogue, Lawrence spoke about the profound joy of becoming a mother for the first time. She described the birth of Cy as a transformative moment, saying, “It felt like my whole life had started over. I just stared. I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing.”

She continued, “I mean the euphoria of Cy is just — Jesus, it’s impossible. My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn’t know about. I include my husband in that.”

As Lawrence embraces motherhood, she’s also preparing to promote her new film Die My Love. The movie, which co-stars Robert Pattinson, is directed by acclaimed Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay. The story tackles postpartum depression and is based on Ariana Harwicz's 2019 novel of the same name. It marks Ramsay's first film since You Were Never Really Here in 2017.

The director shared that Lawrence had a strong connection to the intense material, noting that the film deals with postnatal depression and bipolar disorder. Ramsay explained, "Lawrence just really responded to the material, which is hardcore in some ways, because it’s about postnatal depression and bipolar [disorder]. But it’s funny as well. Well, I’ve made it funny. I think I’ve made it funny. I hope I’ve made it funny."

Set in rural America, Die My Love follows Lawrence’s character as she struggles with the challenges of motherhood, mental health, and her relationships. Her character is torn between her husband, played by Pattinson, and her lover, portrayed by LaKeith Stanfield.
