We’ll not allow our children to be harmed: Sheikh Talal
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 17: His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah presided over the first meeting of the Supreme Committee for the National Campaign to Combat Drugs and Provide Sites for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Addicts. Sheikh Talal Khaled initiated the meeting of the Supreme Committee by reviewing the objectives of the national campaign and its vision, which is based on three main axes, which are awareness of the dangers of drugs and their effects, combating and eliminating these toxins, and finally treatment for those afflicted with these toxins and rehabilitating them to reintegrate into society after recovery.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stressed the importance of cooperation and exerting all efforts to combat this scourge and this devastating danger threatening our society and all Gulf societies, stressing that “We will not allow our children and youth to be harmed and their future robbed.” During the meeting, he stressed the necessity of diligent and continuous work to develop plans and implement them, and to ensure periodic follow-up to eliminate this scourge and its spread to protect society. Sheikh Talal Khaled also directed the speedy establishment of a rehabilitation center that includes a group of national cadres and in partnership with the best specialists in the world to rehabilitate and treat the victims of this scourge among the people of this country.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior concluded his speech by thanking the loyal soldiers who work in various sectors and government agencies to prevent the entry of these drugs into our dear homeland. The decision came to form the Supreme Committee for the National Campaign to Combat Drugs and to provide sites for the treatment and rehabilitation of addicts, headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and the membership of each of the Minister of Health, Minister of Education, Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
The Supreme Committee issued its decisions to form 4 technical sub-committees to implement the plan and objectives of the campaign, and submit its reports periodically to the Supreme Committee for follow-up and approval. A committee to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs was formed, headed by the Minister of Information and the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, with the membership of the Director of the General Authority for Youth, the Director of the General Authority for Sports, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, a representative of the Supreme Council for the Family, and the Director of the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media. The Committee for Combating Drugs and Trafficking came under the chairmanship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and the membership of the Director of the General Administration of Customs, the Director of the General Administration of Ports, the Assistant Undersecretary for Security for Private Security Affairs and Correctional Institutions, the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs, the Assistant Undersecretary for Ports and Borders Security, the Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs and Support Services, the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs and the Director General Department of Criminal Evidence and Director of the General Department for Drug Control.
