KUWAIT CITY, Feb 9: The Kuwait Institute for Judicial Studies hosted a workshop on Sunday titled "Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism: Concepts and Applications," in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The workshop aimed to align with global developments while fostering the exchange of expertise and knowledge.
In his opening speech, Adnan Al-Jasser, the institute's Deputy Director for Communications, Relations, and Research, explained that the workshop is part of the institute’s ongoing efforts to strengthen legal and judicial capabilities. It also seeks to stay up to date with global advancements in combating crimes related to money laundering and terrorism financing.
Al-Jasser highlighted the growing challenges these crimes present to legal and economic systems worldwide. He emphasized the need for coordinated local and international efforts from various stakeholders, stressing the importance of developing skills and enhancing knowledge of the latest mechanisms and legislations related to these crimes.
He also underscored the critical role of investing in human capacity building as a foundation for ensuring swift justice, reinforcing the rule of law, and protecting the national economy from risks that could undermine its stability and security.
The Deputy Director further noted the institute’s ongoing commitment to organizing specialized training programs in collaboration with leading international organizations like the UNDP. These initiatives aim to ensure the exchange of expertise based on the best international standards and practices.
The workshop serves as an essential platform for Kuwait's legal community to advance its knowledge and strategies in tackling these pressing global challenges.
