KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: First Lieutenant Aisha Nasser Bin Obaid, an officer at the Juvenile Protection Department under the General Department of Criminal Investigation, affirmed that cases involving online extortion, bullying, and threats against juveniles are handled with complete confidentiality. She emphasized that the department prioritizes the psychological well-being of juveniles and takes every measure to protect their privacy and reputation. Speaking to the daily, First Lieutenant Bin Obaid explained that the department coordinates with the Cybercrime Department to identify and apprehend perpetrators before referring them to the competent authorities.

The department monitors incoming reports, participates in awareness campaigns and events targeting juveniles and their guardians, and receives complaints, all of which are handled with the utmost confidentiality. She revealed that early detection plays an important role in protecting juveniles, and urged parents to pay attention to sudden changes in their children’s behavior, such as declining academic performance, possessing money or items from unknown sources, or displaying unusual patterns of absence or leaving home. First Lieutenant Bin Obaid explained that if neglect or violence against a minor is established, legal action will be taken in accordance with the law. The law also allows for the juvenile to be moved to a safe environment when necessary. She said, “One of the main challenges facing the department is the ease with which children can access inappropriate online content or form relationships with strangers. Such situations can expose them to crimes involving individuals who may be located abroad or whose identities are unknown”.

Regarding social media monitoring, First Lieutenant Bin Obaid urged parents to closely supervise their children’s online activities, monitor their social media use, and be aware of the content they consume to protect them from digital risks and behaviors that could lead to delinquency. Regarding how to contact the Juvenile Protection Department, First Lieutenant Bin Obaid explained that the Child Protection Section can be reached by calling the hotline No. 147 or the No. 25589535. Both channels are available 24/7 to receive complaints and reports concerning juveniles of all nationalities. All cases are handled with the utmost care, accuracy, and confidentiality
