KALD launches campaign to raise awareness on ADHD

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23:  The Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD) launched a new awareness campaign titled "You Are Not Alone" on Tuesday. The campaign aims to highlight Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), its diagnosis, management, and acceptance, in line with the global awareness month for the disorder

Amal Al-Sayer, Chairwoman of KALD, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that early diagnosis of ADHD allows individuals to manage the condition positively, leveraging its strengths such as intelligence, high focus, and out-of-the-box thinking.

She also explained that the association offers several activities for individuals with ADHD, including after-school classes that teach students mathematics, Arabic, and English with the help of specialized teachers.

Meanwhile, the association’s Vice President, Dr. Issa Al-Jassem, explained in a similar statement to KUNA that ADHD is not considered a disease or disability, but rather a neurological issue that leads to such behaviors.

Al-Jassem noted that signs of hyperactivity appear in children as early as three years old, while attention deficit symptoms become evident around the age of eight, adding that although their symptoms differ, children with ADHD are often highly intelligent and creative.

He stressed the importance of having a child examined by a specialist doctor, and if diagnosed, parents should start the treatment process. He added that “joining KALD helps the child thrive, as the association provides all necessary support for children and their families.”

Founded in 2007, KALD is a non-profit organization that assists students with learning difficulties, ADHD, and aims to utilize all available human and material resources to help them succeed. (KU
