Kate Middleton reveals she is in remission from cancer... ‘it is a relief’
Kate Middleton reflects on long road to recovery and adjusting to ‘new normal’ after cancer

LONDON, Jan 15: The mother of three shared an update on her health after visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she received treatment last year.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of herself sitting with a cancer patient at the hospital.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she continued. “I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

Middleton also expressed her gratitude towards the Royal Marsden Hospital, thanking them for their care over the past year. “My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she added. “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

In her statement, the future queen shared her commitment to the hospital’s ongoing mission: “In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”

Middleton had publicly shared her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, just two months after undergoing “major abdominal surgery” at the London Clinic. During her treatment, she remained largely out of the public eye, making only a few rare appearances, such as at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June 2024 and the men’s final at Wimbledon in July 2024.

In September 2024, Middleton revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that she was now “cancer free.” “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said.

She began attending public appearances again in October 2024, marking a significant return after completing her treatment.

On Tuesday, Middleton visited the Royal Marsden Hospital to speak with doctors, nurses, and other patients. This visit marked her first major solo engagement in over a year. “I was just saying, coming in the front entrance here, having made so many quiet, private visits, actually it’s quite nice,” she remarked upon arrival.

During her visit, Middleton opened up about the long-term effects of her cancer treatment. “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge,” she explained. “The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient — yes, there are side effects around treatment, but actually, there are more long-term side effects.”

She continued, “It’s really tough… It’s such a shock… Everyone said to me, ‘please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference.’ The body is amazing at telling us ‘you need to take time out.’”

When asked how she was feeling, Middleton reflected, “Sometimes from the outside, we all think you’ve finished treatment and you go back to things. But it’s hard to get back to normal.”

Following her battle with cancer, Middleton is expected to ease into 2025, gradually taking on fewer public-facing duties than she typically would have.
