Katy Perry’s spaceflight ends with a kiss to the ground
Katy Perry kisses the ground after landing back on Earth.

CALIFORNIA, April 14: Pop icon Katy Perry made a heartfelt return to Earth today, visibly moved as she knelt down and kissed the ground following an 11-minute suborbital spaceflight aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket.

Perry was part of a six-member, all-female crew that included Lauren Sanchez — Bezos’ fiancée — renowned journalist Gayle King, scientist and activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn. The crew touched down safely in the desert of West Texas after a brief but historic journey beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

As the capsule door was opened by Jeff Bezos himself, Sanchez was the first to step out. However, it was Perry’s emotional display that captured the spotlight, as she expressed her gratitude for a safe landing by planting a kiss on the Earth.

The mission took the crew more than 60 miles above the Earth, crossing the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Aboard the New Shepard rocket, they experienced a short period of weightlessness and breathtaking views of the planet before returning.

This flight marked a significant milestone — the first all-female crew to venture into space since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. Blue Origin’s reusable rocket launched vertically, separating mid-flight to release the crew capsule. The capsule then descended gently back to Earth, assisted by parachutes and a retro thrust system.

The safe and successful return of the six women, including global superstar Katy Perry, marks a symbolic step forward in space tourism and the growing representation of diverse individuals in space exploration. Perry’s emotional reaction served as a powerful reminder of the awe-inspiring nature of space travel — and the joy of returning home.
