DOHA, Nov 19: Kazma Club's first handball team secured a decisive victory in the Kuwaiti derby against Kuwait Club in the quarter-finals of the Asian Handball Clubs Championship. The match, held yesterday at Al Duhail Hall in Doha, Qatar, ended with a score of 32-25. The championship runs until November 23.
In another quarter-final clash, Sharjah of the UAE defeated Mes Kerman of Iran with a commanding 36-25 win.
Kazma sealed its victory four minutes before the match concluded, capitalizing on Kuwait Club's defensive and offensive errors. Key contributions came from standout performers like goalkeeper Abdulaziz Al Dhafiri, who earned the Best Player of the Match award, and Wajdi Sinan. Meanwhile, Kuwait Club's players struggled to match its reputation as Arab champion, except goalkeeper Ali Safar, who delivered a commendable performance.
Kazma will face the winner of the Qatari derby between Al Duhail and Al Rayyan in the semi-finals tomorrow, Thursday.
In the preliminary round of the championship, Kazma finished fourth in Group 2. They achieved a victory over Oman's Al-Ahly Sidab but suffered defeats against Saudi Arabia's Al-Khaleej, Qatar's Al-Duhail, and Iran's Mes Kerman.
