Football Association awaits new board of directors on November 6.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: The Secretary-General of the Kuwait Football Association, Dr Saleh Al-Majroub, has called on clubs to convene for an extraordinary general assembly on the evening of November 6 to elect the president and members of the association's board of directors.

This election will fill the remaining term of the current board, which runs until May 2026, following the collective resignation of the previous board on September 14. Their resignation came in response to events surrounding the Kuwait vs Iraq match held on September 10 as part of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers.

According to Article 35 of the Kuwait Football Association's statutes, the Secretary-General must invite clubs to hold an extraordinary general assembly within 30 days of the board’s resignation to elect a new board.

In recent days, clubs have held meetings to coordinate and determine potential candidates for the new board, which will consist of seven members. Sheikh Ahmed Al-Yousef, the former president of the association, has emerged as a leading candidate for the presidency. Other names being considered for board membership include Osama Hussein, Fawaz Bakhit, Salem Saadoun, Dr. Ahmed Ajab, Fahad Al-Mutairi, Mubarak Abdulaziz, and Thamer Anad.

Al-Arabi and Kuwait Club have announced their support for Sheikh Ahmed‘s candidacy. Kuwait Club President Khaled Al-Ghanim, during the club’s Handball Federation Cup celebration, confirmed the club’s backing of Sheikh Ahmed for the presidency. He also mentioned that Kuwait Club has yet to decide on its candidate for board membership, with a decision expected in the coming days. Similarly, Al-Arabi Club Board Member Ali Atesh has also expressed support for Sheikh Ahmed‘s candidacy.
