KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef, Chairman of the Kuwait Football Association (KFA), reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Blue Veterans Team, expressing his readiness to back the team fully, whether through organizing an internal or external training camp ahead of the Gulf Legends Championship.

The Kuwait veteran’s team began its training at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in preparation for the championship, which will take place in Kuwait from February 20 to 24. The Blues' sessions are being led by Coach Mohammed Ibrahim, assisted by Coach Hani Al-Saqr, with 24 players present out of the initial 28 selected. The team will eventually be reduced to 20 players by the tournament's regulations.

In his statements during the training session, Al-Yousef expressed his hopes for the success of the tournament and encouraged the public to attend and witness the legendary players of the Gulf region.

Addressing media inquiries, Sheikh Al-Yousef clarified that the appointment of the Secretary-General of the Federation is the prerogative of the Federation President and that the name will be announced soon.

Regarding the latest progress on Kuwait's bid to host the 2031 Asian Cup, Sheikh Al-Yousef mentioned that the KFA is collaborating with major international companies to advance the process. He emphasized that securing government support is crucial for the successful completion of the bid, noting that Kuwait meets all the necessary logistical and infrastructure requirements, including transportation and accommodation. He also stated that new stadiums must have a capacity of at least 38,000 spectators.

Sheikh Al-Yousef expressed his surprise that Al-Fahaheel Stadium, which can only accommodate 10,000 spectators, would be considered for hosting Asian Cup matches, suggesting that it may instead serve as a training ground. The same concern was raised regarding Al-Sulaibikhat Stadium.

He revealed that several meetings with government officials will take place in April to discuss the hosting details in greater depth.

Additionally, Sheikh Al-Yousef reiterated his strong support for the technical and administrative staff of Kuwait's national football team and confirmed their continued commitment as they prepare for the upcoming Asian qualifiers against Iraq and Oman in March for the 2026 World Cup.

In closing, he shared that FIFA has allocated a budget of $7.5 million for the construction of a new KFA headquarters, which will be built near Jaber Stadium.
