KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) announced on Sunday that it is now accepting applications for the Kuwait Prize for 2025. Researchers from Kuwait and other Arab countries are invited to nominate themselves for this prestigious award, which is granted annually in five diverse fields, each with a prize worth KD 40,000.
According to a statement from the foundation, the Kuwait Prize is one of the most significant awards in the Arab world and the broader region. It plays a vital role in fostering scientific and technological advancements, encouraging researchers, and contributing to the development process in the Arab world. The foundation emphasized that the application period for the prize will run until May 31, 2025.
The prize is awarded in five fields:
Applied Sciences, with an emphasis on environmental sciences.
Economic and Social Sciences, particularly in the field of sociology.
Humanities, Arts, and Literature, which highlights literature and art in the Arab world.
Emerging Interdisciplinary Sciences, concentrating on computational biology and its applications.
The foundation outlined the eligibility requirements for nominees, noting that applicants must be of Arab nationality, which can be confirmed through a birth certificate, passport, or other relevant documents. The nominee must not have previously won any of the Kuwait Prize fields. It is also specified that nominations can only be made for one field.
Furthermore, the nominee should be a distinguished researcher in the specific field and hold a doctorate or fellowship in medical specialties. Nominations can be made by universities, governmental and civil organizations, past winners of the award, research committees, accredited international organizations, or through self-nomination. Political bodies and entities are not permitted to submit nominations.
For self-nominations, the nominee must provide a detailed statement justifying their eligibility for the award. Additionally, the application must be accompanied by letters of recommendation from three individuals affiliated with scientific institutions, attesting to the nominee's qualifications.
The scientific work presented for consideration must have been published within the last twenty years and should demonstrate continuous, innovative contributions of significant value to the relevant field.
