KUWAIT CITY, June 8: The local leadership council for Kuwaiti Special Olympics athletes concluded its inaugural session with elections to appoint the council’s leaders for the next four years. Youssef Khalil was elected as the council president, Sheikha Al-Hindi was elected as the first vice president, and Ali Al-Shayea was elected as the second vice president. The conclusion of the council’s first session was attended by Rehab Bouresli, National Director of Special Olympics Kuwait, Dirar Al-Rabah, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Ambuh Club, and Siddiqa Al-Ansari, Secretary of the Club and Chairman of the Families Council.

Rehab Bouresli expressed her happiness with the positive outcomes of the council’s work and workshops, held over more than a month, which empowered leading athletes with intellectual disabilities, boosted their self-confidence, and provided them with skills to enhance their independence. These efforts aimed to help them manage their personal affairs, discuss and present their issues, and rehabilitate them for better societal integration and effective participation in the country’s development process.

Bouresli praised the athletes’ level of awareness and engagement with the workshop topics, which included self-confidence and leadership skills, confronting bullying, healthy nutrition, the importance of sports, the safe use of social media, and public speaking skills.
