WASHINGTON, Oct 19, (Agencies): A school bus driver in Oklahoma is now facing serious charges of kidnapping and child abuse following an incident in which he allegedly refused to allow children to disembark from the bus until they quieted down, as reported by multiple news outlets, citing local law enforcement.

The driver, identified as Thomas Young, a 68-year-old employee of Broken Arrow Public Schools, was subsequently terminated by the school district in response to the incident, according to a spokesperson for the district.

Surveillance footage, which has been obtained by various news organizations, captures Young delivering a stern warning to middle school students on his bus. In the video, he can be heard saying, "Quiet, everybody be quiet. I'm not moving until I don't hear any speaking."

Reportedly, he brings the bus to a halt for approximately nine minutes, during which time the children can be heard crying out for help and even screaming. At one point, Young is seen using his arm to prevent a student from exiting the bus. The video also captures distressing banging sounds.

When some of the students eventually started leaving the bus through emergency exits, Young drove to a nearby parking lot. There, more students managed to escape, and police arrived to confront him.

Tara Thompson, the spokesperson for Broken Arrow Public Schools, mentioned that it was only Young's second day on that particular bus route, and he had been 30 minutes late in picking up the students. Thompson described the alleged incident as entirely unexpected.

Authorities have confirmed that the charges against Young will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office for further review. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Young has entered a plea or obtained legal representation to speak on his behalf.
