KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13: The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) organized an Environmental Day event on Thursday at the Al-Liyah Nature Reserve in Jahra Governorate under the theme "Let's Plant Today for a More Beautiful Tomorrow." This event was part of KISR's ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and rehabilitate the desert ecosystem.

In a press statement, the institute explained that the event aimed to raise environmental awareness and instill a culture of sustainability across various segments of society. It also provided an interactive educational experience, encouraging active participation in protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity.

Jahra Governor Hamad Al-Habashi, in his speech during the event, emphasized the significance of environmental initiatives in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing the sustainability of natural resources.

Engineer Dana Al-Enezi, head of the Environmental Day event, also addressed attendees, stating that efforts to rehabilitate Kuwait's desert environment align with Kuwait Vision 2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. These efforts are designed to confront climate change and achieve sustainable development, particularly in the northern region, where new residential and economic projects will be established. Al-Enezi also provided a detailed explanation of the environmental competition held alongside the event, which encourages participants to present innovative ideas for protecting the desert environment.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Anzi, Director of the Environment and Climate Change Program, gave a presentation on the environmental challenges facing desert areas in Kuwait. He discussed potential scientific solutions, leveraging the latest research technologies, to address these issues.

Dr. Ali Al-Dosari, a scientific researcher at the Environmental and Life Sciences Research Center at KISR, spoke about the importance of wildlife and its role in maintaining environmental balance. He stressed the need for intensified efforts to protect natural ecosystems.

The event also featured a presentation titled "Creativity is the Title of Our Environment" by inventor Aref Al-Anzi. During his presentation, Al-Anzi shared a series of innovative solutions aimed at improving environmental sustainability and raising community awareness about the importance of environmental protection.

Over 500 volunteers from various volunteer work teams, institutions, and companies, as well as students from schools and universities, participated in the event. They planted between 500 and 2,000 seedlings of local wild plants, aiming to combat desertification, reduce sand encroachment, and improve air quality in desert areas.
