Kuwait accelerates urban renaissance under Vision 2035

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 18: The State of Kuwait is intensifying its efforts to drive a comprehensive urban renaissance, aiming for a prosperous and sustainable future under Vision 2035. This ambitious vision seeks to advance urban planning through the creation of integrated, modern residential cities that meet citizens' aspirations and promote smart, environmentally friendly development.

Kuwait's urban development dates back to the early 1950s, with the establishment of the Construction Council to oversee housing policies and infrastructure planning. Over the past seven decades, the country has made significant strides in building smart cities, incorporating sustainable, green technologies, and enhancing urban infrastructure to accommodate future population growth.

The government's latest direction emphasizes accelerating the completion of housing projects and integrating modern technologies into urban development. The Public Authority for Housing Welfare and other concerned authorities are working together to resolve any obstacles that may delay project progress, while efforts continue to enhance housing care systems. Authorities are also committed to listening to the needs of citizens residing in new cities, with officials being urged to engage directly with residents.

Kuwait's development plans are supported by two key programs designed to build cohesive infrastructure and environmentally harmonious living areas. These programs focus on green building principles, smart technology, and land management improvements. Recent reports show that significant progress has been made, with numerous projects in various stages of implementation. The country is also working on the Fourth Master Plan for 2040, which lays out urban, economic, environmental, and social policies aligned with expected population growth.

A conference on smart city management, titled "Smart Management and Innovation for Sustainable Cities," is set to begin in Kuwait on November 19, 2024. The event, under the patronage of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, will bring together experts, decision-makers, and international delegations to explore the latest trends and technologies in smart city development.

In line with global trends, Kuwait’s housing projects now incorporate smart systems and sustainable energy solutions. The Public Authority for Housing Welfare is overseeing several major projects, including Mutlaa City and the South Abdullah Al-Mubarak and South Saad Al-Abdullah cities. These projects are expected to offer modern housing solutions with a focus on sustainability and environmental compatibility.

Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Housing Affairs Abdul Latif Al-Mishari highlighted Kuwait's continued commitment to completing housing projects to the highest standards and addressing challenges to provide timely housing for citizens. He also emphasized the importance of partnerships with international experts, including ongoing collaborations with South Korea on developing smart city infrastructure.

Further steps are being taken to enhance Kuwait's housing sector, such as a recent agreement with China’s Ministry of Commerce. This memorandum of understanding, signed in September 2023, aims to develop housing projects with a focus on sustainable growth and international cooperation.

As Kuwait moves forward with these ambitious plans, the government is determined to lay the foundation for a smart, sustainable, and prosperous future, supported by strategic partnerships and innovative urban development projects.
