KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5, (Agencies): Kuwait Airways announced on Monday the suspension of flights to and from Bangladesh due to growing security unrest in Bangladesh. In a press statement, Kuwait Airways indicated that further updates would be provided as the situation evolves.

The cancelation was in response to widespread protests in Bangladesh against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her government, which have erupted as student demonstrations demanding reforms to the civil service quota system.

Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army, Waqar-Uz-Zaman, told the people of the country on Monday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned as reports emerged about her departure to India amid massive anti-government protests. The Bangladeshi news portal Prothomalo said that in his address the army chief announced the resignation of Hasina and promised to form an interim government through discussion, pledging to bring the perpetrators of killings to justice and maintain peace and tranquility in the country.
