KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Dr. Mahmoud Bushehri, Kuwait's Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, held discussions with a Chinese delegation on the renewable energy projects currently being implemented in Kuwait, as well as broader cooperation in the energy sector between the two nations.
In a press statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Electricity reported that during the meeting, Minister Bushehri and the Chinese delegation reviewed the executive plans for completing the third and fourth phases of the Al-Shaqaya Renewable Energy Project, which is expected to have a production capacity of 3,200 megawatts. Additionally, they discussed the Abdaliyah Photovoltaic Energy Project, which is considered a key and expedited initiative to strengthen the country's energy security.
The Ministry noted that technical teams from both sides have been tasked with quickly finalizing the technical specifications to ensure they align with the projects' established timelines.
The discussions also covered bilateral relations and ways to further develop energy cooperation. The renewable energy projects being undertaken with the Chinese side are based on a strategic memorandum of understanding for cooperation in renewable energy, signed between Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and China's National Energy Administration.
The meeting was attended by the Chinese delegation, led by China's Ambassador to Kuwait, Zhang Jianwei, along with Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Ambassador Samih Johar Hayat.
