KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: Kuwait’s General Department for Drug Control has arrested a Turkish truck driver after seizing 300,000 Captagon tablets worth more than KD 500,000, the Ministry of Interior announced.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
The seizure took place in the Kabd area following search and investigation operations. The narcotic tablets were concealed inside the truck’s spare tire and covered with insulating material in an attempt to hide the contraband.
The General Fire Department was called in to open the tire and retrieve the tablets.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the suspect confessed during questioning that he had transported the drugs from a neighboring country through a border crossing while entering Kuwait on a transit visa in the truck he was driving.
Coordination was also established with the anti-narcotics agency in the country from which the suspect originated.
The suspect and the seized narcotics have been referred to the competent authorities for the necessary legal action.
The operation was carried out in the presence of Head of the Criminal Security Sector Brigadier General Fahad Al-Badr, Director General of the General Department for Drug Control Brigadier General Mohammed Qabazard, and Assistant Director General Brigadier General Hamad Al-Sabah.
Sheikh Fahad reaffirmed that Kuwait’s security authorities would continue to dismantle drug-smuggling routes, confront smuggling methods and pursue those involved without leniency.
He stressed that protecting society, particularly children, from the dangers of drugs remains a security priority, warning that attempts to smuggle narcotics into the country would be met with firm action.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and preventing narcotics from reaching the community.
