KUWAIT CITY, July 21: Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr. Anwar Al-Mudhaf met on Friday with Ma Zhao, the Commissioner-General of the Representative Office for the Middle East and Africa in the People’s Republic of China, to discuss enhancing cooperation in the electric power system and developing renewable energy.
The Ministry of Finance stated in a press release that the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, focused on joint efforts and bilateral work to begin implementing and translating the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect him, to the People’s Republic of China in September 2023. The statement also mentioned that the latest developments concerning the memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the electric power system and renewable energy involve implementing several energy projects by specialized Chinese companies, adhering to the latest technical standards and specifications. Notably, this includes the project to build, operate, and manage the Shagaya Renewable Energy Station (Area 3 + 4).
The statement quoted the Minister of Finance, who is also the Chairman of the Committee for Following Up on the Implementation of Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding Signed with the People’s Republic of China, as saying that work is ongoing at the highest levels to translate the recommendations agreed upon during the successful visit of His Highness the Amir to China.
Al-Mudhaf highlighted the role of major Chinese companies in implementing many strategic projects included in the development plan, which aligns with the strategic relationship between the two friendly countries He emphasized the Kuwaiti government’s commitment, represented by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister, and the government team responsible for following up on the agreements and memoranda of understanding with China, to overcome obstacles and support efforts to ensure that the agreements are put into effect as soon as possible, reflecting a shared desire to expedite completion.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Bushehri, Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayat, and several officials from the Ministries of Electricity and Water and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
