Kuwait, China fortify 53-year ties

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 26: Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, and Acting Minister of Oil Noura Al- Fassam expressed her pride in participating in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

In the speech she delivered at the event, the minister conveyed her highest appreciation and gratitude to the government and people of China, affirming the strength of the bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Al-Fassam stated, “I am honored to be with you today to celebrate this historic day. I would like to thank the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei for the kind invitation. “On behalf of the government and people of Kuwait, we congratulate China and its friendly people on this important occasion and wish them continued progress and prosperity. “The strong bilateral relationship between Kuwait and China, which has flourished for 53 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, is a clear testament to the mutual trust and cooperation between our countries. Our partnership has deepened through the Belt and Road Initiative and joint agreements, enhancing economic and developmental ties between Kuwait and China.” Minister Al-Fassam affirmed Kuwait’s desire to strengthen cooperation with China on several vital projects, particularly the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port and the Shaqaya Renewable Energy Projects. She said these projects are essential components of Kuwait’s development vision and are in line with the aspirations of the political leadership.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei said, “China and Kuwait are like-minded friendly countries and stable partners moving forward side by side. Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with China, and our bilateral ties have consistently been at the forefront of China’s relations with other countries in the region.” The two successful meetings between the Chinese President Xi Jinping and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah have provided a strong impetus for the future growth of China-Kuwait relations in this new era. “Currently, both sides are working diligently to implement the important agreements reached between the leaders of the two countries, and are actively pushing major cooperative projects, including the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.

“In addition, exchanges between media institutions and youth and students from both countries are flourishing. “Many Chinese art troupes have delivered outstanding performances in Kuwait. Also, the Chinese language is gaining popularity in the country, fostering a stronger foundation for understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

“Over the past 75 years, the Communist Party of China has united people of all ethnic groups across the country, leading them with strong and resolute efforts in pursuit of the Chinese dream. This has enabled China to successfully embark on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, transforming the nation from a poor country into the world’s second-largest economy, and achieving a great leap forward for the Chinese nation from self-sufficiency to becoming prosperous and powerful. “In the process, the size of the Chinese economy grew from $30 billion to $17.8 trillion last year. China has achieved remarkable progress, becoming the largest country in terms of manufacturing, commodity trade, and foreign exchange reserves. “It also constructed the world’s longest high-speed railway network, the longest expressway network, and the largest number of 5G base stations. It accounts for over 50 percent of the world’s new energy vehicles.”
