KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: Kuwaiti authorities are actively reviewing all files related to nationality issues across various categories, with a particular focus on completing cases involving the wives of Kuwaitis (Article 8). The committee is finalizing these files while ensuring that approved entitlements, such as jobs, identification cards, bank accounts, and retirement salaries, are provided to the concerned individuals.
In parallel, authorities are considering reaching out to foreign countries to obtain information on Kuwaiti citizens holding dual nationalities. This move follows the discovery of cases where individuals, despite previously submitting documents renouncing foreign citizenship, were found to have reacquired foreign identification documents in violation of Kuwaiti citizenship laws. Some countries allow dual citizenship and permit individuals to retain foreign passports, while other cases were uncovered through biometric fingerprints, statements, and evidence.
As part of the government’s ongoing procedures, plans are underway to contact countries whose nationalities were held by individuals whose Kuwaiti citizenship has been revoked.
In a related development, sources confirmed that files related to "distinguished services" remain under investigation, with no new decisions issued yet. The year 2000 is considered a pivotal reference point for these nationality files, which are subject to thorough examination.
The sources emphasized that loyalty to Kuwait is a "red line," and nationality issues are treated with utmost seriousness. The measure of action is based on the crime and the final conviction ruling after all legal appeals are exhausted. They noted that the revocation of citizenship in 38 cases related to the "Lions of the Peninsula," "Abdali Cell," and "Financing Hezbollah" will serve as a precedent for future convictions in cases involving disloyalty to the state.
Kuwait remains committed to upholding the integrity of its citizenship laws and ensuring that loyalty to the nation is preserved.
