Kuwait Club defeats Bahrain’s Al-Ahli to maintain lead in WASL group stage

MANAMA, Dec 17: Kuwait Club secured an impressive 77-63 victory against Bahrain’s Al-Ahli in the fourth round of Group A in the West Asia Gulf Region Basketball Championship (WASL). The match took place in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

With this win, Kuwait Club, extended its lead at the top of the group standings, accumulating 8 points. Al-Ahli remains at 5 points, tied with the UAE’s Shabab Al-Ahli, while Oman’s Al-Bishr sits at the bottom with 3 points.
According to the tournament format, the team finishing first in the group automatically advances to the next round, while the second and third-placed teams from the Gulf Region groups will compete in a play-off to secure their qualification.

Meanwhile, the seventh round of the Basketball League will feature two matches today. Kuwait Club will aim to continue its winning streak when it takes on Al-Qurain at 5:00 pm, followed by Al-Arabi’s clash against Al-Nasr at 7:00 pm. Both games will be held at the Basketball Federation Hall in Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex.

Currently, Kuwait Club and Al-Qadsiya share the top spot with 8 points each. They are followed by Kazma and Al-Nasr with 6 points, Al-Arabi and Al-Sulaibikhat with 5 points, Al-Qurain with 4, and Al-Tadamon and Yarmouk with 3 points each.

The league follows a two-stage format, with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will feature a best-of-three playoff series between the first and fourth teams and the second and third teams. The winners will progress to a five-game final series, where the team that wins three matches will be crowned champion.
