DOHA, Jan 20: The Kuwait Club volleyball team secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Zamalek in the second round of the 43rd Arab Club Volleyball Championship, currently taking place in Doha with the participation of 15 teams.

The "Brigadier" had previously triumphed over Libya's Al-Hilal in the opening match of Group Two, bringing its total to five points and placing it at the top of the group.

Elsewhere, Qatar's Al-Shorta defeated Bahrain's Dar Kulaib 3-0, Egypt's Al-Ahly overcame Iraq's Erbil 3-1, and Al-Seeb claimed a 3-0 victory against Libya's Al-Hilal.

Meanwhile, Burgan recorded its first win of the championship, edging out Gaza of Palestine 3-2. This victory placed Burqan third in Group Four. As per the tournament rules, only the top two teams from each group advance to the second round.

Muhammad Al-Faraj, Vice Chairman of Burgan Club and Head of the Delegation, praised the team’s performance and expressed hope for success in the consolation round. Burgan is set to play against the third-place team in Group Two on Wednesday, under the leadership of Argentine coach Alejandro Grossi.

Notably, this is the first time Qatar has hosted the Arab Volleyball Clubs Championship since its inception in Libya in 1978. Libya's Al-Suwaihli was the defending champion, having claimed the title in Jordan in 2024.

In other news, within the Women's Volleyball League, Al-Fatat Club will face Salwa Al-Sabah Club today at 6:00 pm at Salwa Club Hall.
