DOHA, Jan 18: The Kuwait Club is set to face a formidable opponent, Zamalek of Egypt, at 6:30 pm today in the second round of Group Two of the 43rd Arab Clubs Volleyball Championship. The tournament, hosted in Doha, Qatar, runs until January 25 and features the participation of 15 clubs from across the Arab region.
The match will take place at Al-Arabi Club Hall in Doha, following the earlier Group Two clash between Al-Seeb of Oman and Al-Hilal of Libya. In Group Three action at Qatar Club Hall, Arbil of Iraq will face Al-Ahly of Egypt, while Al-Shorta of Qatar will play Dar Kulaib of Bahrain.
Kuwait Club started their campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Al-Hilal of Libya. Meanwhile, Zamalek also began strongly, defeating Al-Seeb 3-1 in its opening match. The preliminary round of the championship is scheduled to conclude the day after tomorrow.
Burgan Club, the second Kuwaiti representative in the tournament, played its second Group Four match against Qatar SC. Burgan had previously lost a tightly contested opening match against Al-Jazira SC of the UAE, 2-3, and will conclude its group stage match against Gaza SC of Palestine.
According to the tournament format, the top two teams from each group at the end of the preliminary round will advance to the quarterfinals on January 22, while the remaining teams will compete for rankings from ninth to fifteenth.
