Kuwait Court Sentences Lawyer to Five Years for Defrauding Expatriate

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: The Criminal Court has sentenced a lawyer to five years in prison and fined him 50,000 dinars for defrauding an expatriate in a bribery scheme. The lawyer was accused of soliciting 50,000 dinars from the expatriate in exchange for canceling the deportation order of a relative, receiving an initial payment of 5,000 dinars.

The expatriate became suspicious after the lawyer directed him to communicate with an unidentified individual impersonating a detective. Realizing he was being scammed, the victim reported the matter to the authorities.

Following an investigation, the Public Prosecution obtained permission to conduct a sting operation. Detectives recorded the incident with audio and video during an ambush where the expatriate handed the bribe to the lawyer. The court's decision underscores its commitment to combating corruption and upholding justice.
