Kuwait Court Upholds Death Sentence for Bedoun in Patricide Case

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Court of Cassation has upheld the death sentence for a Bedoon (stateless individual) convicted of killing his father with a firearm and attempting to kill his mother in the Al-Firdous area. The attempted murder of the mother was thwarted due to a malfunction in the weapon. The tragic incident followed a domestic quarrel.

The accused had confessed to the crime during the trial, stating that he was under the influence of various drugs at the time. According to his testimony, the dispute began over breakfast, leading to an argument with his mother. When his father intervened, the altercation escalated into a physical fight. The accused then retrieved a firearm and fatally shot his father in the chest.

He claimed he was unaware of his actions at the time, stating in court, "What I am narrating now is what I was told later. I only realized what happened after I woke up in the detectives’ cell, where I was informed that I had killed my father." The confession came after the effects of the drugs he had consumed wore off.

The court's decision affirms the severity of the crime and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of substance abuse and domestic violence.
