KUWAIT CITY, March 14: The General Directorate of Coast Guard, under the Ministry of Interior, has issued a warning to owners of abandoned ships and marine vessels along the Ashirj coast. Owners are urged to visit the department’s headquarters in the Ardiya Industrial Area to update their records within the specified timeframe.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to regulate the coastline and safeguard the marine environment from pollution caused by abandoned vessels.

According to an announcement published in the Official Gazette (Kuwait Alyoum) on August 4, 2024, ship owners are required to submit original documents or certified copies proving ownership of the vessels, along with a detailed report on their current condition. The Directorate warned that failure to comply with these requirements will result in legal action, including holding owners responsible for the costs associated with removing the abandoned ships.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that this measure aligns with the provisions of Maritime Trade Law No. 28 of 1980 and the Environment Public Authority Law No. 42 of 2014, as well as their amendments. The goal is to protect the marine environment and ensure the safety and sustainability of Kuwait’s coastal areas.
