Kuwait delegation praises successful participation in Paris's 'Working for AI' summit

PARIS, Feb 12: A Kuwaiti delegation, led by Minister of State for Communications Affairs Omar Al-Omar, participated in the "Working for Artificial Intelligence Summit" in Paris, emphasizing the crucial need for international cooperation and expertise sharing in the governance of artificial intelligence (AI).

In an interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Najat Ibrahim, Acting Director General of the Central Agency for Information Technology, underscored the summit's focus on the impact of AI on societies, emphasizing ways to harness its potential for fostering innovation and achieving sustainable development goals. She also stressed the importance of enhancing digital empowerment through the adoption of advanced technological solutions and promoting the culture of AI and cybersecurity to improve government performance.

Eng. Abdulkarim Al-Fawzan, Supervisor of Studies and Research at the agency, noted that the summit featured significant discussions among high-ranking officials and heads of state on fostering innovation and encouraging research and development in AI technologies. These discussions were aimed at unlocking the full potential of AI for societal benefit.

Manal Al-Maziad, Acting Head of the Supervision Sector at the General Authority for Communications and Information Technology, called for Kuwait to stay ahead in the global race for AI adoption, ensuring the technology benefits national development and citizens' interests.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Fahad Nayef Al-Sabah, Acting Head of the Arab and International Department at the Ministry of Communications, emphasized the need for international collaboration to establish a unified regulatory framework that ensures the responsible and sustainable use of AI technologies.

Kuwait's participation in the summit highlights the country's commitment to advancing its AI capabilities while adhering to ethical standards. Al-Omar reiterated Kuwait’s dedication to adopting the latest AI advancements while ensuring they align with human values. He emphasized the importance of international collaboration to develop regulatory frameworks that safeguard the responsible use of AI technologies.

The summit focused on five key areas: AI for public interest, the future of work and innovation, the cultural role in AI, trustworthy AI, and global governance in the AI field. Al-Omar reaffirmed that Kuwait views AI as a key component in future economic and social development and is committed to fostering a legislative environment that supports innovation, digital infrastructure development, and empowerment of national talent in the sector.

The Kuwaiti delegation's participation included representatives from the Central Agency for Information Technology, the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority, and the Ministry of Communications. Together, they demonstrated Kuwait's commitment to enhancing its role in international forums related to technology and communications.

The summit featured high-level discussions on critical topics such as cybersecurity, data protection, and the global governance of AI technologies. Sessions also addressed the balance between innovation and ethical responsibility, as well as AI's impact on jobs and productivity in various sectors.

The summit concluded by stressing the need for ongoing dialogue between nations to develop regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with moral responsibility. It emphasized policies that ensure the fair and responsible use of AI, maximizing its benefits while minimizing potential risks.
