KUWAIT CITY, April 26: Military spending in Kuwait decreased in 2022 by 11 percent, to reach $8.2 billion, compared to 2021 according to a study compiled by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) as a result of which Kuwait fell from 26th place to 30th in the list of the 40 highest military spending countries in 2022, reports Al-Rai daily. Kuwait’s military spending of its GDP amounted to 4.5 percent in 2022 compared to 3.3 percent in 2013, ranking ninth in the world in military spending (meaning military spending as a share of GDP), while its share of global military spending reached 0.4 percent.

The report indicated that six Arab countries are among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of military spending with Saudi Arabia, which spent 7.4 percent of its GDP on the army taking the top spot, then Qatar (7.0 percent), Oman (5.2 percent), and Jordan (4.8 percent), Algeria (4.8 percent) and Kuwait (4.5 percent).
