KUWAIT CITY, Aug 30 : The Kuwait Fencing Federation extended its honors to several members of the national fencing team. This recognition came in celebration of their remarkable achievement of securing 8 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals at the 15th Arab Games.
In addition to the collective success, special acknowledgment was given to Youssef Al-Shamlan, who achieved the impressive rank of 22nd globally in the Fencing World Cup 2023.
Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the federation, conveyed to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that this gesture marked a groundbreaking moment for the fencing team, emphasizing their outstanding performance and dedicated efforts. These qualities translated into their remarkable results during the championship, which were the fruits of their unwavering commitment to rigorous training aimed at securing various medals.
Al-Shamlan further underscored that this honor serves as both a morale boost and an incentive for the athletes as they prepare for the upcoming challenge at the 19th Asian Games. The event is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, with an eye on the ultimate objective: qualifying for the 33rd Olympic Games set in Paris for 2024.
In anticipation of the Asian Games, a rigorous training camp will be conducted in Italy for the national team. The federation is dedicated to supporting their endeavors and will provide substantial financial incentives.
The esteemed individuals recognized for their contributions include Muhammad Mahdi, Abdulaziz Duaij, Youssef Al-Shamlan, Abdulaziz Al-Shatti, Abdul-Rahman Al-Yaqout, Hassan Al-Foudari, Ali Al-Nakas, Ali Fadel, Bandar Al-Shamlan, Ali Al-Nassar, and Saleh Mahdi.
The 15th Arab Games, held in Algeria from July 5 to 15, witnessed the team's remarkable performance. Similarly, the adults' World Cup took place in Milan, Italy, from July 22 to 30, assuming greater significance as it serves as a qualifying platform for the forthcoming Paris Olympics in 2024.
