KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Former Vice President of the Asian American Football Federation, Sheikh Mishal Talal Al-Fahad, commended the Kuwaiti national flag football team for securing second place in Asia and ranking 24th globally in the latest classification by the International Federation of American Football. He emphasized that this historic milestone reflects the team’s outstanding performance and results in various international tournaments, including their participation in the 2024 World Cup held in Finland last October.
Sheikh Al-Fahad, the founder of flag football in Kuwait, highlighted the significance of this achievement. He noted that Kuwait’s position among top teams in Asia and globally is remarkable, especially considering the team’s limited experience, the short duration since the game’s introduction, and the lack of support compared to other nations.
He urged the relevant authorities to extend greater support and attention to the sport, which has garnered significant interest and participation among Kuwaiti youth. He emphasized that these young athletes have the potential to compete and achieve success on multiple levels. Sheikh Al-Fahad also recalled the team’s impressive performance in the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, where they clinched second place despite being newly established at the time.
Sheikh Al-Fahad congratulated the Kuwaiti American Football Committee, led by Madi Al-Mutairi, on this remarkable achievement and the team’s advancement in global rankings. He viewed this progress as a promising indicator of the committee’s efforts and strategic planning, which aims to pave the way for Kuwait’s qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
