Kuwait Hands Over Dangerous Drug Dealers to Iraq in Major Crackdown

BAGHDAD, Jan 9 : The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced the extradition of eight dangerous drug dealers from Kuwait, marking a significant achievement in its efforts to combat international drug trafficking. In a press statement, the ministry credited the successful operation to the exceptional efforts of Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, who spearheaded intensive coordination with Arab and allied nations on extradition matters.

The operation was carried out after high-level collaboration with Kuwaiti officials to facilitate the exchange of wanted individuals under existing agreements and treaties between the two countries. The suspects were identified as key figures in international drug trafficking networks.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to tracking down all fugitives wanted by the Iraqi judiciary, regardless of the severity of their crimes. It highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Arab and International Police Directorate to secure the return of wanted individuals through coordination with Interpol member states and other international partners. In 2024 alone, Iraq successfully retrieved dozens of fugitives from various countries.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to enforce the law, with strong support from the Iraqi judiciary, ensuring that no individual is exempt from legal accountability. It concluded by stating that all wanted individuals abroad will eventually face justice, emphasizing that it is only a matter of time and coordination with the relevant security authorities.
