KUWAIT CITY, Jan 22: Kuwaiti ice hockey star Ahmed Al-Ajmi has officially announced his retirement after a remarkable career spanning over 32 years. The legend will mark this milestone with a retirement festival on February 20, during a match between the Kuwaiti national team and the "Gulf Stars," under the patronage of former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmad Al-Shohoumi.

Al-Ajmi is widely regarded as one of Kuwait's most accomplished ice hockey players. His illustrious career, which began in 1992 and concluded in 2024, includes numerous accolades. He secured the Asian Cup title twice, in 2015 and 2017, and competed in four Asian Winter Games: South Korea (1999), China (2007), Kazakhstan (2011), and Japan (2018). Additionally, he participated in three editions of the World Cup and has been a key figure in the Gulf Championship since its inception.

Al-Ajmi's achievements are equally impressive. He was named the Best Player in Asia twice, Best Player in the Gulf three times, Top Scorer in the Gulf Championship twice, and Best Player in the Arab Championship once. Domestically, he clinched the National Ice Hockey League title seven times with various teams.

To commemorate the occasion, Al-Ajmi extended a special invitation to Hussein Al-Musallam, President of the International Aquatics Federation and Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, to attend the retirement festival at the Winter Games Club Hall.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Al-Musallam, Al-Ajmi, and Winter Games Club Secretary Mishaal Fulaitah at the Olympic Council of Asia headquarters. Al-Musallam lauded Al-Ajmi's extraordinary contributions to ice hockey, wishing him continued success in his endeavors and future contributions to Kuwaiti winter sports.
