Kuwait-India relations in focus as Modi embarks on historic visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi before his departure to Kuwait

NEW DELHI, Dec 21: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the enduring historical relations between India and the State of Kuwait, which have flourished over generations.

In a press statement before departing for Kuwait, Modi emphasized the strong ties between the two nations, not only in trade and energy partnerships but also in shared interests in fostering peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East. He underscored India's deep appreciation for the "historic bond" with Kuwait.

The Prime Minister expressed his eagerness to meet with Kuwait's political leadership to "chart a roadmap for a future partnership" that would benefit both nations and the broader region. Modi voiced confidence that his visit would strengthen and enhance the special relationship between India and Kuwait, while deepening the bonds of friendship between their peoples.

This visit marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years.

India and Kuwait enjoy robust relations in trade, investment, and energy, alongside deep-rooted cultural and interpersonal connections. Modi's visit aims to reinforce these existing ties and explore new avenues of cooperation.

In his departure statement, Modi also expressed his eagerness to meet the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, recognizing their significant contributions to strengthening the friendship between the two nations. He thanked the leadership of Kuwait for the special invitation to attend the inauguration of the Arabian Gulf Cup, a prominent sporting event in the Gulf region, and expressed excitement about participating in this celebration of athletic excellence and regional unity.

Modi reiterated his belief that this visit would reinforce the special ties between the people of India and Kuwait, paving the way for a future of stronger collaboration and mutual benefit.

Earlier this month, on December 4, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya visited India, where he held discussions with Modi. Their talks focused on the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and strategies to enhance collaboration across various sectors.

During his visit, Al-Yahya also met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar for an official discussion session. The talks revolved around strengthening bilateral relations, fostering development, and achieving the shared vision of both nations' leaderships for a brighter future.

The discussions also addressed regional and international developments, including the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting the rapidly changing dynamics in the region.

Modi’s visit is expected to build upon these efforts, paving the way for deeper cooperation and a stronger partnership between India and Kuwait.
